Statisical Observations of Trachoma of Orphanage in Seoul and its Vicinity


Abstract
The Korean war has left a great number of Children Parentles. and a good part of the orphans are reported suffering from trachoma.
The Prevention of this ever-increasing eye disease is one of the most urgent task to be undertaken to safeguard Public health.
The Author, as an Ophthalmologist, the undersigned, Conducted a survey of Children 2792 in 33 Orphanage located in and around Seoul in 1954. The following findings are hereby reported.
(1) The incidence of Contraction of trachoma in orphanages of this Country is lower than that of the general Public in neighforing Countries.
(2) The incidence of Contriction in orphanages is higher¢¥ than that of the generral Public in Korean.
(3) The incidence of Contraction is higher in females then in males.
(4) The incidence of Contraction is the highest in the age group of 6,to 10 years.
(5) The incidence of Contraction¢¥ of the Type of trachoma, is in the following order: papillary trachoma, granular trachoma, mixed trachoma, cicatricial trachoma.
